APHA 2022 150th Anniversary

SHLI joined over 300 exhibitors this year for APHA’s 150th anniversary.Approximately 12,500 public health professionals attended the conference in person at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in Boston, MA.

Several SHLI Faculty & Staff presented during the APHA Conference.​ Joined by Barbara Baylor, Caswell Evans, Dr. Howard Koh, Somava Saha, and Jeffrey Simms, Dr. David Satcher presented as part of a panel hosted by the Caucus on Public Health and the Faith Community. Session Title: Faithful Dancing with the Bears of Inequity: Present, Past and Future.

Daniel Dawes presented at several events including:​

  • Illusions of Health Equity, re-framing the accountability of Social Determinants of Health, building change and hope​
  • Where Do We Go from Here – An Interactive Discussion of Strategies to Build the Public Health Workforce from College to Commissioner​
  • Political Determinants of Health: Taking Action as Public Health Professionals

Maisha Standifer presented on an AJPH Special Issue: ​

  • ​“Achieving health equity in HIV, substance use, and trauma prevention and treatment: Mentoring to dismantle structural racism.”

The Satcher Health Leadership Institute “Meet & Greet” reception had hundreds of attendees. The meet and greet featured welcome remarks from Daniel Dawes and Dr. David Satcher. Nelson Dunlap and JC Gonzalez provided an in-depth overview and demonstration of SHLI's award-winning health equity tracker. In addition to a great meal and presentations, our guests received complimentary copies of the “The Political Determinants of Health” and “My Quest for Health Equity: Notes on Learning While Leading.” The SHLI team is looking forward to APHA 2023, set to be hosted in Atlanta, GA.
