The SHLI Health Policy Fellows are attending the 143rd APHA Annual Meeting in Chicago from October 31st to November 3rd focused on engaging public health professionals across the country to advance “Health in All Policies” to improve the nation’s health and advance health equity.
Current and former fellows and health policy faculty are well represented among conference presenters. 2015-2016 fellow, Angelica Geter, DrPH presented on “Incarceration and HIV in Young African American MSM.” Former fellows LeConte Dill, DrPH (2011-2012), Shanell McGoy, PhD (2012-2013), Jammie Hopkins, DrPH (2012-2013), & Natalie Hernandez, PhD (2013-2014) are also presenting at one or more sessions.
Health Policy Director Harry J Heiman is presenting on the health policy fellowship’s approach to integrating health equity and “health equity in all policies” across the program curriculum in a session titled “Developing Health Leaders to Champion Health Equity.”
Faculty and staff from across all of the other SHLI divisions are also actively engaged presenting at the conference, including Dr. Satcher who will provide a keynote on “Gun Violence in America” and incoming APHA President and SHLI Senior Fellow, Camara P. Jones, MD, MPH, PhD, who will speak about “APHA’s Role in a National Campaign Against Racism.”
On Monday night, November 2nd, SHLI and CAAPHP will be hosting a reception at the Hyatt Regency Chicago from 6:30-8:00 pm. We look forward to seeing program alumni, colleagues, and friends!
