On October 20th, 2015 from 4:30-6:30pm, Morehouse School of Medicine hosted “Conversations and Coffee” with the Vice President of Liberia H.E. Joseph N. Boakai, Dr. and his delegation.
The focus of the meeting was to discuss post-ebola recovery strategies and partnership among a diversity of organizations and agencies including the Consul General of the Republic of Liberia, Savannah State University, the Emory School of Nursing and the HEARTT Foundation.
A robust discussion was had about a variety of ideas and topics including Liberian leadership during the Ebola crisis and post-Ebola recovery, attention, resources and strategies to address mental and emotional trauma experienced by victims and their families, the value of small, coordinated international efforts to support Liberia post-Ebola recovery, and ensuring that interventions and technologies that are provided are culturally tailored to facilitate success.
Next steps include the on-going work of the University Consortium for Liberia to increase the impact of their work in Liberia and the MPH Program’s exploration of opportunities to develop and provide an MPH curriculum and teaching resources.
